"End-of-Month Recap - June 2024"

Event Highlights:  - Matariki  A Night to Remember! -

We are delighted to share the highlights of our recent Matariki celebration, specially organized for our international students. The event, hosted by our very own Martin, was a wonderful opportunity to learn about and appreciate this significant Maori festival.

This celebration marks the Maori New Year, symbolized by the rising of the Matariki star cluster. It is a time for reflection, remembrance, and planning for the future.

Martin captivated the audience with a detailed presentation on the history and significance of Matariki.

The presentation taught us the origins and legends; stories of the seven stars and their meanings, and cultural significance; how Matariki is celebrated and its importance in Maori culture, and modern celebrations; and how Matariki is observed in contemporary New Zealand.

To make the learning experience even more enjoyable, there was a series of interactive games related to Matariki. The competitive spirit and teamwork made the quiz a huge hit! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in making this event a success. Your enthusiasm and involvement truly made the night special.

Event Highlights:  - Community Clean-up -

Our recent community park clean-up event brought together our international students for a day of environmental stewardship and community bonding. The event was a resounding success, and we couldn’t be prouder of our students’ dedication and hard work.

On the event day, our international students gathered at Albert Park with the shared goal of making a positive impact on our local environment.

Armed with gloves, trash bags, and recycling bins, students worked in teams to clean various areas of the park. From picking up litter to clearing pathways, everyone contributed to making the park cleaner and more enjoyable for the community.

The clean-up was not all work and no play. Zealive organized a few fun interactive activities and refreshments to keep spirits high.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to students for their hard work, positive attitude, and dedication to making a difference.

Event Highlights:  - Kelmarna Community Farm Tour -

Our group of international students visited Kelmarna Community Farm in Ponsonby, a local gem known for its sustainable farming practices and community involvement. The tour began with a warm welcome from the farm’s owner, Adrian, who gave us an overview of the farm's history and mission.

Students were taken on an informative tour around the farm, where they learned about organic farming practices, the methods used to grow crops without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, local produce, the variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs grown on the farm, their nutritional benefits, sustainable agriculture, how the farm conserves resources and promotes biodiversity. The tour was a fantastic opportunity to learn about sustainable agriculture, local produce, and the importance of community farming. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this event possible.

We look forward to hosting more educational and community-oriented events in the future.
